My Journey:

In the Fall of 2020, I started college at The Ohio State University (Go Bucks) not really sure what I wanted to do. As I progressed through my time there, I discovered that I was interested in writing sports articles. In my second year at Ohio State, I decided on pursuing a journalism degree.

At the end of my third year in the spring of 2023, I became a data collector for MLS partner IMG Arena. I covered eight MLS and MLS Next games, recording all the statistics in the game. Through those eight games I recorded 3 games with no rating mistakes. In 2024, I have covered 17 games so far recording 14 games without having a rating mistake.

While completing my journalism degree, I got the chance to write stories through the Lantern Practicum class and have them published with the student run newspaper at Ohio State, The Lantern. After writing as the film and theatre beat writer for a semester, I figured out that I wanted to write about something else and sports was where I wanted to go with it. I was also able to create sports multimedia journalism projects in the Multimedia Journalism class which was taught by Leonardo Carrizo. I covered smaller sports clubs like Roller Hockey and Boxing club, making video and photo projects on them.

The Sport’s Journalism class ran by Nicole Kraft and the Sport’s Media Relations class ran by Tim Miller and Nicole Kraft allowed me to have opportunities to write and work in the world of sports. I was also able to figure out that I want to work in public relations if not journalism exclusively. Through the Sports Journalism class, I learned how to write sports feature articles, one of which was published, gamer articles, and more. In the Sport’s media relations class, I learned how to deal with Press releases, crisis communication, working with advertisements, building relationships with coaches and players, managing sports organizations, and more. All of these things combined made me understand that I either wanted to work as a sports journalist or a public relations person that works for or with a sports team.

Now, as I search for what I want to do in the real world, I am just looking for a chance to do what I love and cover sports. The stories that I have had published will be on the Lantern Articles page in the top right. My multimedia projects can be seen upon request.
